Which ratio should you deliver?
Instagram rows on this page come from https://help.instagram.com/1631821640426723. Last verified 2026-10-06. If a placement is missing, we did not have an official URL we were willing to cite.

Feed photo (square): 1080×1080 (1:1). Instagram help documents square 1:1 as a supported feed crop. Feed photo (portrait): 1080×1350 (4:5). Instagram help: portrait feed crops as tall as 4:5. Stories and Reels: 1080×1920 (9:16). Full-screen Stories/Reels use a 9:16 frame on typical phone canvases.
Convert from a 16:9 master
Most cameras and desktop editors still start at 16:9. To reach 9:16, crop 607×1080 or pad 1920×3414 from a 1920×1080 source.
Open any table row in the calculator to set the width or the height in pixels. That is faster than retyping a cheat sheet.
What this page will not claim
Safe-zone UI chrome, bitrate caps and file-type limits change often. We list ratio and pixel size only when the cited help page states them.
Ads placements can differ from organic placements. The Meta and TikTok rows used here are the public ads/help specs, labelled as such.
Notes that apply only to Instagram Aspect Ratio
Instagram help describes square 1:1 and portrait feed crops as tall as 4:5, plus full-screen Stories and Reels at 9:16. Landscape feed crops exist in the product; we only list rows we can point at on that help article.
A 1080-wide master covers those three shapes: 1080×1080, 1080×1350, 1080×1920. Convert from 16:9 with the crop/pad cards instead of stretching a landscape still into a Story.
Pick the Instagram aspect ratio from the surface, not from a single export preset. The feed wants 1:1 or 4:5. Stories and Reels want 9:16. Save the feed crop and the vertical cut as two files from the same photo, so the grid and the full-screen story are both intentional.
Frequently asked questions
Where do these sizes come from?
Only official help or ads-spec URLs listed in Sources.
What is last verified?
The date we last checked that URL. It is not a promise the vendor will not change the spec tomorrow.
How do I convert my existing file?
Use crop or pad from the 16:9 example, or open the converter.
Why is a size missing?
We omitted it rather than invent a pixel pair.
